The climate in Avignon is temperate, fairly hot in the summer and relatively cold in the winter The period from June to September is perhaps the best time to visit Avignon , as temperatures are generally in the high 20°C and can often reach 30°C, and if you are a sun worshipper then this time is going be ideal for you. Despite the threat of rain, the summer is generally a sunny time and storms rarely last long to play havoc with the plans of tourists. Autumn too sees a little warm weather and a late September holiday is probably ideal for those not fond of sunbathing and looking to do some sightseeing in peace without getting much of the sun scorching them.
But if someone plans to come in the summer season, then it's worth braving the heat and getting a bit of sun as the city's internationally renowned summer arts festival, held in July and August is in full swing at this time. However, spring is the best time to visit Avignon for sightseeing.
Unlike some European holiday destinations, Avignon does not really offer weather that is warm enough to provide respite from cold UK winters and is perhaps not an ideal winter holiday destination. Temperatures tend to stay between 0°C and 5°C, but can on occasion drop several degrees below freezing and Avignon witnesses some bitterly cold, windy days. As the winter season fades and spring arrives, you can expect temperatures of between 10°C and 15°C, with the odd fine day where temperatures reach 18°C to 20°C.
