The act of diving into water acrobatically from a certain height is known as Diving. Diving is an internationally recognized sport and is a part of the Olympic Games. In the interim time from taking the leap and touching the water surface, a diver performs various acrobatic stunts. Unstructured and non-completive diving is a common recreational activity. Diving in France generates lots of interest among the youths. There is a steadfast growth in the number of young boys and girls who take part in diving.
Love for adventure and recreation in France is deep rooted. Young boys and girls are taking to diving increasingly. Especially with the first rate facilities, diving in France is flourishing. The French word for diving is plongée. The diver is called plongeur(male) or plongeuse(female).
Diving in France is popular along the Mediterranean coast. Some of the places where diving in France is pre-dominant are Cote D'Azur and Brittany. Most Diving competitions have three categories - 1m, 3m and tower. Athletes are segregated on the basis of gender and age group. In tower events, competitors have the choice to choose from heights of five, seven and a half or ten meters. Although at high level meets, including the Olympic Games and world championships, the standard height is 10 meters. Synchronized Diving was adopted as an Olympic sport in 2000.
