France is one of the super powers in world football. They have won the 1998 World Cup and have the distinction of winning the subsequent Euro Cup in the year 2000. No other country has ever held the World Cup and the Euro cup at the same time. In the last World Cup (2006), France finished as the runner-up. France has won its first Euro Cup in 1984. The governing body for Football in France is the French Football Federation (FFF). The FFF is in charge of both the men's and women's national football teams. The French domestic league is run by Ligue de Football Professionnel.
Over the years, Football in France has produced several prodigies. Some of the biggest names in football from France are Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane. The late 1990s were the most successful years of Football in France. France started doing really well in the world stage after reaching the semi finals of Euro 96. After a lot of criticism for the defensive tactics of the then team manager Jacquet, by the French Press, the team stood up and proved that they could take on any country in the world and beat them, by winning the 98 World Cup. Football in France dates long back. France's first ever game was a 3-3 draw against Belgium in 1904. France played in all the three World Cups prior to World War 2.
