Music Festival, France
France - Avignon - Paris
From time immemorial the cities of France have held an enchantment for art lovers. For long the country has been considered a center for European art and music. France boasts a wide variety of music from indigenous folk to African and Latin American styles. In the field of classical music too the country prides itself on its number of legendary composers. So it is just natural for millions of visitors each year to throng the music festival in France. One of the main France festivals and events, the music festival is a mega cultural event attracting music critics from all over the globe.
France first paved the way for the now worldwide music festival 25 years ago. Held on 21 June each year, the music festival in France is a day for musicians and music lovers to enjoy some good harmony. On this day you can find lone musicians armed only with their instrument scattered throughout the major urban areas. Around a quarter of a century ago Christian Dupavillon, then an advisor in the private office of the Culture Minister of France, first conceived the idea of a music festival in France. His idea was spurred by a memo he had received which explained that the French owned more than 4 million musical instruments, of which 75% were deteriorating from the lack of use.
The day for this one of the major festivals and events in France was chosen as June 21, because it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The event was originally named 'Faites de la musique', which translates to 'make music', but its pronunciation is same as 'fete de la musique', which means festival of music. With musicians spread in all possible places with their instruments, belting out melodious tunes, you will have an insight into the real culture of France. On this day you can venture anywhere in the participating cities and enjoy and celebrate something that is non-political, non-violent, and beautiful in its own right.
