France is a country in Western Europe. This wonderful country is full of exotic natural beauties. England is one of the premier neighbors of France. Today, France is considered to be one of the most powerful nations of the world, both politically and economically. The administrative setup of the country is based on the Provinces of France. France Travel Guide gives you a deeper insight of the various regions of the country.

The Provinces of France were organized until 4th March, 1790. After that, the provincial setup was replaced. It was replaced by the department system. During those days, the land was under the ownership of the feudal system. This implied that the locals had to be loyal to the feudal landlords. As an attempt to put an end to this system, the department system was activated in the place of France provinces. The focus was to turn the loyalty of the locals towards the central government in Paris.

Though the administrative setup based on Provinces of France are not in practice anymore, some of the administrative regions of France still bear their former names. Even today, while assigning names to the natural regions, many geographers use the names of former French provinces.

The administrative setup of France consists of 22 regions. These regions have further been classified under seven key `cultural regions'. These regions are Ile de France, Northern France, Northeast France, Great West, Central France, Southwestern France and Southeastern France.
