The Parlement de Bretagne is the protector of Breton's heritage. Furthermore,
it has played a significant role in Breton history and legacy. Parlement de
Bretagne is one of the chief 18th century sites of the city of Rennes.
In 1532, Grand Dukedom of Brittany was legitimately integrated into France.
It was at this time when Rennes became the administrative hub and the control
center of the Parlement de Bretagne. Although the ruling city endured two losses
by fire, Bretagne still kept its spirit. In 1720, houses were damaged in the
city center as there were only few structures that survived. Parlement de Bretagne
in France was one of them that survived making Breton proud.
Parlement de Bretagne in France soon became a chief monument and cornerstone
of Rennes. It was in 1994, when masses of Breton fishermen in demonstrating
their protest set Parlement de Bretagne on fire. The blazing fire engulfed everything
that came its way as decorations, files and just about anything were reduced
to fire. Many firefighters fought the fire, as some of the artwork was saved
from destruction. Parlement de Bretagne was restored and again became operational
from October 4, 1999 onwards. It was Alain-Charles Perrot as well as Jean-Loup
Roubert, who took charge as to renovating Parlement de Bretagne.
