The Patron Saint of Solignac is Tillo. Born in Saxony, Tillo was known by a
host of names such as Filman; Hillonius; Theau; Thielman; Thillo; Tilloine;
Tillon; Tilman. The memorial is on 7th January. History says that he was kidnapped
by pirates. Brought as a slave to the Low Countries, his ransom was paid by
Saint Eligius of Noyon. Tillo subsequently became a Benedictine monk at Solignac
in France. He also worked as a missionary in the areas around Courtrai in France.
Tillo ultimately retired to to become a hermit at Solignac and died of natural
causes at Solignac in France in 702. Tillo is represented by an abbot holding
a chalice and staff.
