Mercantour National Park, France

The Mercantour National Park in France is one of the seven national parks in France. With an average estimate of around 800,000 visitors every year, this park enjoys the privilege of being one of the famous National Parks in France.

There are 28 villages in the Mercantour National Park in France. The protected area is spread across 685 square kilometers including seven valleys. These are Roya, Bevera, Vesubie, Tinee, Haut Var or Cians, Verdon and Ubaye. Sightseeing in France remains incomplete complete if you miss out this park.

Geographical Location:

The highest point is Mont Gelas in the Alps Maritimes which is situated at a height of 3,143 meters and houses the famous Vallee des Merveilles. It is a historical monument and is popularly known as the valley of marvels. It is amazing to note that there are about 37,000 rock carvings at the foot of Mont Bego which dates back to the Bronze Age. These represent weapons, cattle and human figures of the ancient times.

Flora and Fauna:

There are about 2,000 species of flowering plants including rhododendrons, firs, spruces, cembro pines, larches, holm oak and the Mediterranean olive tree. Out of these, 200 species of plants are very rare. These include edelweiss, martagon lily, houseleek, moss campion and gentiane.

There are many species of animals also. Most of these residents are shy and rarely come out to greet you. However, you can feel their presence by their movements. The members of the fauna family include marmots, mouflon, stags, roebucks, wild boars, hares, partridges, eagles, buzzards, wolves and numerous species of butterflies.

Some of the villages in the Mercantour National Park in France are Beuil, Entraunes, Peone, Rimplas, Tende, Sospel, Valdeblore, Allos, Guillaumes and Moulinet. You cannot simply eliminate this park from France Tourist Attractions. Do come here and enjoy the beauty of nature.
