Cluny Paris

France - Avignon - Paris
The Cluny, Paris is a fascinating museum that consists of innumerable artifacts of the medieval era. It is built on the site of the very ancient Roman thermal bath. But most or rather all of them were destroyed completely at the time of the barbaric invasions in the third century.

The Cluny Benedictines had bought this particular plot of land to build a mansion in the year 1330. It was Jacques d'Amboise who built the present edifice between the years 1485 to 1498. There are a number of aspects within the Cluny, Paris. There are the numerous abbots and the houses of the papal nuncios of the 17th century.

There was some amount of damage done during the Revolution of the 19th Century. After it was restored and made into a museum. Now it contains very few of the original remnants of the Medieval Ages of Paris. But besides these there are also several other important works of art that dates back to the Middle ages.

It has a wonderful collection of medieval art that has its roots in the collection of Alexandre du Sommerard's own collection. The Cour d'Honneur has lent charm to the ambience of the building. This by itself shows the reflection of the transitional period of the Late Gothic to the Renaissance period. There is also a lovely fountain that dates back to the 15th century.
