The Eiffel Tower, Paris is the tallest structure in the city and it is truly one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is obviously a major tourist attraction on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine River. It is the most recognized structure in the world and it is estimated to have around 6,428,441 visitors from all over the world.
The structure
The Eiffel Tower rises to a massive height of 324 meters that is 1063 feet. There are 81 stories. It was struck by lightening in 1902 and so the top part about 300 feet had to be built again along with the lights that were there set on the tower.
The events
The structure has a fascinating and eventful past. In 1930 the Tower lost its position as the tallest tower in the world when the Chrysler Building in New York. The Eiffel Tower had served as the tallest bill board for the Citroen. In 1940 Paris was occupied by the Nazis and the cables for the lifts were cut so that Hitler would have to climb the steps.
The New Year celebrations are an event that should not be missed under any circumstance. The entire structure is lighted up and there are the spectacular fire works and this is one of the most fascinating celebrations that any tourist can ever witness. The Eiffel Tower, Paris also hosts an ice skating rink on the first floor at the time of the winter season. Here skating is free and it provides a wonderful view of the Southern parts of Paris.
