The Berlin Wall, Berlin is the representation of a Cold War that was prevalent in the city. The wall separated the eastern and western part of the city. The construction of the wall started on August 13, 1961. It can be called icon of the Cold War.

The Berlin Wall, Berlin was envisaged by the East German administration. It was constructed in the post war era of World War II. The wall built to restrict the flow of labor and economy from East to West Berlin. The Wall represented the tyranny which was prevalent in East Berlin.

The War led to the divisions of Germany into 4 sectors. In 1948 The Soviet section of Germany was transformed into German Democratic Republic and East Germany was declared as its capital. Till 1961 as said earlier everything was fine but after that the people of East Germany was attracted to the modernization of West Germany. Thus the wall was built.

During the year 1989, the President of the Soviet Union visited West Germany. It was the time when Hungary opened its border to Austria and thereby the Berlin Wall, Berlin was also reopened. 25th December, 1989 saw the fall of the wall and a concert was held with a musical trance. Beethoven's 9th symphony was played in this auspicious occasion.

Berlin Wall, Berlin is visited by tourists to experience the cultural flavor of Berlin. Most of the parts of the wall no more exist. But the east side gallery still exists. The gallery is an archive of 106 paintings. A tiny part of Bernauer Strasse exists. This is the place where the destruction of the wall really started. Thousand crosses were raised in 2004 to pay homage to the people who died while passing from East to West Berlin.
