Berlin is the capital of Germany. Located north-eastern part of Germany, this city gradually metamorphosed itself from a trading center to a thriving metropolis. The city is rich with almost a thousand years of history. No wonder Berlin museums are preserver of history. With all the sight seeing places and home to major international companies; Berlin is frequented by tourists from all over the world. However the prime concern for any tourist in an alien country is safety. Berlin health and safety issues are what you should remember to avoid a hassle free vacation. Though a thriving metropolis, Berlin is surprisingly one of the safest cities in the World. You can walk alone even through the alleys at night. However it is advisable not to be completely lonely and you would do well to move around in at least a small group. Besides, this city is a very tolerant one. The colored people can roam around the city streets without being subject to racial attacks. It is however a sad reality that despite all the efforts of the city authorities some amount of racism still exists. Some neo Nazi youth groups are giving police a hard time. Identified generally by shaved heads and jackboots with white laces, these groups have, in the past, been blamed for racial attacks including verbal outbursts and even in some cases physical harassment. These racist attacks generally happened in the suburb districts like Marzahn, Hohensch ö nhausen and Lichtenberg. Do not try to purchase drugs as the penalty for it is quite hard. Apart from that, the drugs sold by local mafia are dangerously impure and pose a great danger to your health. All U-/S-Bahn stations have 'SOS/Notruf/Information' systems installed. Indicated by red button, the electronic information and emergency devices allow you to talk directly to the concerned stationmaster at just a push of the red button.
