Cologne is situated in the east of Greenwich. Its elevation is 55metres above the sea level. It extends 27.6 km from the east to the west and 28.1 km from the north to the south. The Cologne region lies in North-West German lowlands.

Cologne is the most popular city of Western Germany on river Rhine. Cologne was demolished during the World War II. However, the glory of the city was restored by the many monuments, cathedrals and other architectural splendors that were built ever since. Today, Cologne stands out for its urbanity.

Emperor Claudius made Cologne a Roman colony in A.D 50. The city was self-ruled for many years. In the year 1475 A.D it became a free imperial city.

Cologne has a mild climate. In fact, it is the warmest place in Germany in winter. The Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea act upon the climate of Cologne. That is why the humidity of Cologne is very high. Rhine is the main river of Cologne. Because of the smoke from the factories, the Rhine had become a ‘dead river’. However, desulphurization to the river has made it usable. It is regarded as the most important inland port of Europe. Cologne is also considered as the capital of Rhineland for its economic and cultural aspect.

Cologne is the fourth largest city based on its population. More than 1million denizens live in the main city of Cologne. The density of population in the city is around 2380 citizens per 2km. Maximum number of automotive industries, international chemical and pharmaceutical industries, electrical and mechanical industries are based here. As the city lies on the bed of the river Rhine, Cologne is very famous for its greenery.
