When to Go to Cologne

Cologne lying along the River Rhine between Dusseldorf and Bonn is the fourth largest German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Cologne was first established by the Romans and the early Roman settlement was known as Colonia Agrippina after A.D. 50. Hence Cologne is one of the ancient cities of Germany. This old city exudes a peculiar charm and is the most popular hub of tourists with its plenty of sightseeing options and illustrious past. The most famous landmark of the city is the feted Cathedral also known as the Kölner Dom.This cathedral is one of second-tallest Gothic structure in the world and one of the architectural marvels with its largest west façade with two identical towers.

Owing to its pleasant climate and other attractions, a horde of tourists visit every year to experience the charm of Cologne. Cologne offers mild and moderate winters. Summers are sometimes humid but are not at all scorching hot. It snows very less during the winter.
The best time to visit Cologne is during the months of May and September as these are the most pleasant months. During this time, all the beer gardens and outdoor gardens cafes remain open where visitors can really have a great time tasting the German Espresso and the far-famed, light top-fermented, local beer known as the Kölsch beer.
This indigenous beer is only brewed in the local breweries of Cologne and you would love the fresh flavor of this beverage.

The months of October to November also has days with mild weather conditions. Rainfall is erratic, so be prepared, it can start pouring anytime. During the months of November to March, the sky is grey and the temperature gets cooler.
This time is also pleasant and if you are really interested in activities then do visit Cologne in November when the Cologne Carnival starts. The city burst with activities and sounds from 11th November and continues for a week. This popular carnival draws millions of crowds and is one of the biggest street festivals in Europe.
