Located in western Germany, the city of Dusseldorf sits on the banks of the River Rhine. The capital of the German Federal State of North Rhine Westphalia, the city boasts of more than a thousand years of history. With history dating back to the Roman times, this city was in the second millennium A.D. reined over by the Berg rulers. The city of Dusseldorf then suffered first at the hand of Napoleon then by the allied bombing during the Second World War. The post war years however saw Dusseldorf changing rapidly and now this city is a major telecommunication and internet hub in Germany. However not only for the business travelers, the city also offers a lot to the vacation travelers. Königsallee is the most famous tourist attraction of Dusseldorf. This grand and luxurious boulevard was completed in 1804. Now named as Kastanienallee or Chestnut Avenue; trees planted alongside the generous stretch of water to the center are a sight to behold. The night time renders more beauty as the lights make the place look like a heavenly place.
Burgplatz was formerly a castle of the Count of Berg. The count used to rule over Dusseldorf from this heavily fortified castle. Though most of the castle was burnt down in 1872, a tower is all what remains of this castle. The castle nonetheless forms a major part of Dusseldorf tourist attractions.
The Rhine tower is the undisputed champion in Dusseldorf tourist attractions. Since construction ended in 1982; this tower has attracted a lot of tourists. The tourists come here to get a superb bird’s eye view of the city below from the 164 meters high viewing platform. Besides, the tower has a revolving restaurant at 172 meters.
