With history of Frankfurtdating back to the Holy Roman Empire, this city has many places of historical importance. However Frankfurt in modern times has become a thriving and prosperous metropolis. With European Central Bank located at this city; Frankfurt is a business hub in whole of Europe. With something for everybody, Frankfurt tourist attractions are numerous. Constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries; Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral building was built on Gothic style. The height of this building is 95 meter. Starting from 1356, Kings of Holy Roman Empire used to be elected at this church. However from 1562, the kings of Roman Empire also used to be crowned at this church. The cathedral in 1867 was destroyed by fire. The cathedral was again rebuilt. However the old architectural style has been kept the same. Town hall in Frankfurt is another tourist attraction venue. The city council of Frankfurt in 1405 purchased nine buildings from a wealthy local merchant. The fifth building, that is, the middle one of the total nine buildings was converted into town hall. Later on, town hall was connected to the annexed buildings. The town hall is significant in another respect. The newly coroneted Holy Roman kings used to hold royal dinner in the banquet hall which is located on the upper floor. If you are a music lover; head for Alte Oper. Built in 1880, this opera house was designed by Richard Lucae. This opera house was frequented by the aristocrats in Frankfurt. However during the Second World War, the original building was destroyed but built again in 1981. This opera house now sees concerts by world renowned singers and musicians. Frankfurt Opera is another major tourist attraction in Frankfurt. Considered as one of the best opera houses in the whole world, this building regularly hosts opera plays by international opera troupes. A more contemporary tourist attraction site in Frankfurt is of course the Commerzbank Tower. Designed by Sir Norman foster, this building is the tallest one in Germany. The tower houses a lot of offices and is considered as the highest office building in the world. Other modern tourist attractions of Frankfurt are: Silver Tower; Messe Turm; Trianon and others.
