Portikus Frankfurt
Germany - Cologne - Dusseldorf - Frankfurt - Munich - Stuttgart - Hamburg - Berlin
Portikus was situated in the public library of Frankfurt, but then due to renovation work of the library, the museum was shifted to the ground floor of the historical building known as the Leinwandhaus, in 2003. This temporary arrangement was designed by artist Tobias Rehberger; he created a spatial concept by using various modular elements such as platforms and boxes. This allowed integration of the gallery, office, reading area and storage space into a large and rustic hall. The lighting of the museum was designed by Olafur Eliasson; he was responsible for the lighting of the exhibition area.
The year 2006 saw Portikus move to another place, the museum was shifted to a new building. This new building was designed Frankfurt architect Christoph Mäckler and it is situated on a small island in the river Main. Portikus has emerged as the premier exhibition venue of Frankfurt and houses exhibitions of local as well international artists all throughout the year. So if you love paintings and sculptures, do not forget to visit the Portikus in Frankfurt. You can be rest assured that the collections of the museum will be able to gratify your aesthetic desire completely.
