Conveniently located at the Baltic Sea, every ship passing the Nordsea comes across the memorial. Nearby, the U-995 can be found. The site can be visited early in a day, for they are adjacent to each other. From a distance, the red brick tower of the Laboe Naval Memorial is clearly visible.
The Laboe Naval Memorial tower contains exhibits of paintings as well as every flag that was used b the German Navy since 1657. The bell to its right hangs in the tower. Using the stairs, you can visit the balcony of the Naval Memorial. It gives a nice view of the area around Laboe, including the Kieler Forde, the bay that leads to Kiel. The Laboe Naval Memorial was loitered and confiscated after the end of WWII by the Allied Forces, for it was a reminder of the Third Reich. It was renovated in 1995.
