Canoeing and Kayaking in Hamburg

Germany - Cologne - Dusseldorf - Frankfurt - Munich - Stuttgart - Hamburg - Berlin
Canoeing is an activity which can be related to recreation, sport as well as transportation; it involves the activity of paddling a canoe with human intervention sans any mechanical support.
Kayak on the other hand involves the usage of a paddle with a couple of blades with the paddler sitting with their legs in front of them.
Canoes are usually open boats while Kayaks are usually closed deck boats with a spray deck. However there is no hard and fast rule as there can always be closed canoes and open kayaks.
The activity or the art of canoeing has been born out of necessity than anything else as it was used to meet the needs of transportation across small water bodies and waterways.
For a long time the canoeing used to be a preferred mode of transportation in much of North America, mainly through the Amazon basin and other places in Polynesia.
There are few places in Hamburg where you can go sailing and one place where you can venture out is the Alster Lake which gives you the option of hiring sailing and rowing boats. The only bad thing about this place is that the nature of the wind is sometimes unpredictable since there are lots of buildings around this lake.
One can go for canoeing through the upper Alster and its tributaries and the canals with which they are connected. These places are quiet and relaxing and it has a uniquely calming effect on the body and mind. One has to just stay off the main traffic route and one has to stay on the sides’ foe a nice and peaceful ride. There is a place on the east side of the main harbor which has loads of places meant for some peaceful canoeing and Kayaking. The pick of the lot is one quiet branch on the Elbe a place known for water sports.
