It was built with in 1914 and 1922 by the renowned architect from Hamburg Fritz Schumacher and the museum dedicated to history and culture was formally opened in 1922. The museum is an impressive structure and has a distinctive roof design and a light house shaped tower is put on top of the building and its patio was roofed with a glass construction.
The main theme of the museum is the metamorphosis of the city from the 800 BC till recent times.
