When to go to Hamburg

Germany - Cologne - Dusseldorf - Frankfurt - Munich - Stuttgart - Hamburg - Berlin
Hamburg is a picturesque city in Germany, attracting a major percentage of the country’s tourists. With a serene coastline, and a historic past, the city has a host of interesting sites, thus drawing a growing crowd of tourists from across the globe.

The city is packed with visitors for almost the entire span of the year, though the maximum flow of tourists is seen during its tourist season which stretches from May to October. As the weather remains at its best, these months are indeed the best for savoring the gifts which Hamburg has to offer. The months from May to October experience a pleasant climate, allowing the visitors to explore the city and its surroundings. As delicate blossoms dot the city, donning it with a dash of colors, Hamburg becomes a wonderful place to be in. The summer months however, might experience occasional spells of rain, especially in the later months. The tourist season here generally remains bright and warm though the temperature never rises to make the day too scorching. Apart from a congenial weather, the season has another unique experience to offer to the tourists. The visitors indeed delight in the string of festivals which the city observes from May to August. Be it the Kathleen Mass in May, or the Full Moon Festival in July, there is always some interesting activity for the ones visiting at this time of the year. The film festivals which are hosted in August and September are also a different experience for the tourists.

Winter in Germany is a bitter season, and is naturally avoided by the tourists. Snow falls are frequent and gusts of wind sweep the city, making it impossible to enjoy the sites which it offers. The Elbe and the lakes too freeze, depriving the tourists of some of the most beautiful locales in the city. A visit to Hamburg in the off season can however, be much cheaper as most of the hotels and tour operators offer special discounts during the winter months. The Zwischensaison, or between-season and Nebensaison or edge-of-season packages are surprisingly low priced to allow a trip that is really easy on pockets.

The best time to visit Hamburg is therefore during the summer as the city then dons itself in its best shades, and allows the tourists to enjoy the city to its full.
