About The Hanover International Airport
The Hanover International Airport is also known as the Langenhagen Airport, after the nearby town of Langenhagen. The airport lies 11 kilometers from the city center of Hanover.
The Hanover International Airport, Germany started operations in 1952 at the site of an old airfield within the Hanover city boundaries. The first phase of modernization of the Hanover International Airport took place in 1973 when two advanced terminals with a combined capacity for 12 aircrafts were opened. They are still functional today.
The second significant phase of modernization of the Hanover International Airport took place in 1998 whence a larger terminal was built with a capacity for 33 aircrafts, including 20 that can accommodate aircraft stands fitted with a Jetway. The new terminal could handle more passengers and had 8 more gates.
All the three terminals at the Hanover International Airport can handle a Boeing 747 while there’s a fourth terminal whose hangar is solely used by the Royal Air Force.
The Hanover International Airport connects the city of Hanover to most of the major cities of Europe like London, Paris, Brussels and also to holiday destinations like Egypt and Mallorca, making the air route one of the most convenient modes of getting to Hanover. There are countless flights to Hanover from these places operated by major airlines like Aeroflot, Air Europa, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa Cityline, Swiss and Turkish Airlines.
