Ernst August Denkmal Hanover

History: This is a monument in Hanover that often acts as a prominent landmark. The monument is actually the statue of Ernst August I in his Hussar uniform. The king Ernst August was the first king of Hanover after the personal union with England. The base of the statue is made of granite while that statue is carved out of bronze. The tablet on the basement has an inscription “The National Father its Faithful People”. The monument was established in 1861. The statue had been temporarily shifted from its original location because of the subway railway construction in 1971 and was again returned in 1975.

Present Significance: Today, the Ernst August Denkmal acts as a major landmark that people of Hanover often use as a meeting point. Moreover, being located right in front of the Central Railway Station, it is easier for any person to locate it. It was Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves who had designed the beautiful surrounding square. Albert Wolff designed the main monument. The monument is a fantastic piece of architecture and your Hanover trip would remain incomplete without a glimpse of Ernst August Denkmal.
