Located on the northern side of Bernried, BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH is situated. It is located in Höhenried Park. BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH lies by the banks of Lake Starnberg. Old trees, cool ponds, pagodas and wooden and metallic works decorate the path leading from the visitor’s parking lot to the museum itself.
ARCHITECTURE OF BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH:
BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH is designed by architect Günter Behnisch. His architectural skill has given birth to a Museum that reflects its appreciable diversity. The Museum has been designed in an open and multi-segmental structure. Suspended about twelve meters high above the lake is a deck. It is an unique architectural feature of the Museum. The town Starnberg an Alps can be viewed from it.
COLLECTION IN BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH:
In the spacious halls of the Museum, one will find works of Expressionism. These works are by the "Brücke" (1905–1913) group. One can find Buchheim’s own works as well as collections of folk art and ethnological artistry in the intimate rooms of the “towers”. Under the four sections of the Museum fall a painting gallery, a graphic arts gallery, a European crafts collection and a Museum for ethnological art. A vast variety of Expressionist art is collected in the Museum. The group of artist “Brücke"’s work form the major collection of BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH. Water colors, drawings, woodcuts, etching and lithographs are included among the collection. An expressive visual language involving simple and daring forms, vivid colors was practiced after the initial late-impressionistic approach. Lovis Corinth, Max Beckmann and Oskar Kokoschka are artists whose works complement the work of “Brücke".
SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS AND EVENS IN THE MUSEUM:
The works on paper in the Expressionist galleries are exhibited, which keep on rotating throughout the year. Apart from that there are several first-rate gallery presentations and special exhibitions which are often conducted. In order to explain the themes presented in the Museum special guided tours, workshops, talks, events are organized occasionally.
Apart from BUCHHEIM MUSEUM, MUNICH, there are several other Museums which have increased the value of Munich on the cultural ground.
