HISTORY
Old Pinakothek (Alte Pinakothek), Munich was born in two different periods in German history and architecture : the early 19th century and the post war years of the 20th century. It is the child of both Leo von Klenze (1784-1864) and Hans Dollgast (1891-1974).King Ludwig I put the responsibility on Leo von Klenze, the finest classical architect , to put up a new building to showcase the growing royal art collections. It was built in 1826-1836 in a neo-renaissance pattern. Dollgast ,however ,deviced ideas for the reconstruction of the Old Pinakothek (Alte Pinakothek), Munich after the building was demolished by the bomb war due to Nazi invention o. Though the Old Pinakothek (Alte Pinakothek), Munich boasts of being one of the oldest art museums in the world , the recently opened Pinakothek der Moderne exhibits modern art .
