HISTORY OF Schack-Galerie, Munich:
The spectacular collection of Schack-Galerie, Munich has been preserved in Munich by the virtue of Emperor Wilhelm II. Adolf Friedrich Graf von Schack was the previous owner of Schack-Galerie, Munich. 250 contemporary pictures that he had collected were pledged to the royal family by him. But it was the emperor’s decision to leave the pictures in their original place. The Schack pictures were shifted to a new location, after the Prussian Embassy was reconstructed in 1911. Ever since then the pictures have remained there in Schack-Galerie, Munich.

Various landscapes are there among the collection of Schack-Galerie, Munich. Apart from that, works of Bocklin, Lenbach, Schwind, Feuerbach and Spitzweg etc. also find place among the rich collection of the Museum. It was Count Adolf Friedrich Schack’s fancy that compelled him to imagine himself as a Maecenas of his contemporary artists. In the former seat of Prussian Embassy, these collections of paintings include 270 works. They belong mainly to German Romanticism.
