Located to the east of Munich’s Marienplatz, this Church features an exquisite interior with gorgeous artworks. The architect of this building was Jorg von Halsbach. You will notice a yellow spot on the floor, which is said to be the devil’s footprint as according to the popular belief. The towers of the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), Munich are prominent landmarks of the city of Munich. These were constructed in 1524 to 1525. Both the towers are 300 feet high each. They feature a splendid dome shaped like an onion. One of the two towers provides an observation platform which gives opportunities to enjoy spectacular views of more or less the entire city. The towers are fine examples denoting the change from the Gothic style to that of the Renaissance.

The foundation stone of the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), Munich was actually placed by Duke Sigismund in 1468. The whole construction stands about 358 feet in height and is 131 feet wide. The interior features Gothic art and architecture. The crypt contains the graves of the Wittelsbach house, which is also the burial ground for many eminent bishops and dukes. The church features a noteworthy grave meant in the memory of Prince Elector Kurfurst Maximilian I. The grave is made pure black marble and reveals a mystic and deep beauty of its own.

The Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), Munich also features the burial of Duke Ludwig IV, who was made the Holy Roman Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1328. The Church houses a remarkable collection of carved wooden busts of the apostles, prophets and saints. These are some of the masterpieces of the great sculptor of Munich named Erasmus Grasser.

The Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), Munich is open from Saturday to Thursday 7 am to 7 pm. On Fridays it is open from 7 am to 6 pm. From Monday to Saturday the Church is open from 10 am to 5 pm. Usually there is no entrance fee to the church.
