Munich is not only one of the largest cities of Germany but also the capital city of Bavaria. The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Munich is one of the places where the tourists frequently visit.

The Old Town Hall features two most important structures – the tower and the Saalbau or the main hall. The tower was actually constructed on Marienplatz in 1180. It was erected with the aim of keeping a watch over any foreign invasion or any external threat, thereby safeguarding the eastern part of the city of Munich. After that this tower of the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Munich was ruined many times over the centuries and was rebuilt in the early 1970’s. This was done on the basis of the design of the architect from the year 1462.

The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Munich houses the famous Toy Museum. This museum features very cute and cuddly teddy bears, dolls, small cars and miniature trains. All are kept in glass show cases. With its attractive displays, this place is especially popular and interesting among the kids. The main hall of the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Munich or the Saalbau was built between 1470 and 1480 by Jorg von Halsbach. This is one of the most splendiferous halls in the whole of Germany reflecting Gothic styles of art and architecture.

Outside the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Munich, you will notice a marvelous statue of Juliet (of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’). This was gifted to Munich by Verona. This place is open from 10 am to 5:30 pm. This Town Hall is strategically located in a nice area where you will find some cafes, snack bars, bars and restaurants. So apart from exploring the Town Hall, you can also take a relaxed break over some refreshments.
