The Museum Wiesbaden, Germany is one of the best preserved museums here. It houses a huge collection from various sections like zoology, botany, geology, mineralogy, paleontology and ethnographic. This museum has been built with help and support from the staff members and private contributors especially members of the Nassau Society for Natural Science who has been contributing in the development of the collections since 1829. Today the collection of natural objects stands at fifteenth position in regards to most important collections in Germany. Even many scientists have worked on the collections. The majority of the objects are documented in catalogues and on index cards. The administration of the museum by the Nassau Society of Natural Science had led to the documentation of the former duchy of Nassau as the prime focus. But with colonization the total scenario changed and a number of collections started coming from regions all over the world. The Department of Natural History Collections extends a permanent exhibition over an area of 800 square meters. The ground floor houses a hall with geological, mineralogical and palaeontological exhibits while the second floor has displays of the animals of the great climatic areas while tropical forest, savannah, desert and arctic areas and the animals of central Europe are presented in the first floor. Temporary exhibitions are regularly held on the ground floor.
