The Hamburg State Opera, Germany was inaugurated in the year 1678 in the month of January. This, in fact, was the first public opera house of Germany. The art lovers of Hamburg were instrumental in setting up this fabulous opera house. This huge theatre was originally built of wood. The stone foundation for a new theater called Stadt Theatre was however laid on the 18th of May in 1826. The new stone and brick structure has a seating capacity of 2800. The building of this opera house was renovated in the year 1873. The entire building is designed according to the Grunderzeit style, prevalent at the time it was actually built. Electric lighting was introduced in the Hamburg State Opera in the year 1891.
