Semperoper, Germany was built in the year 1841 according to the early renaissance style. However a huge fire in the year 1869 destroyed the opera house after which it had to be reconstructed. The building of this opera house is known form its unique architecture, which is fine example of Dresden Baroque architecture. Located on the Theatre Square in Dresden, this opera house has a statue of Dionysus placed on its roof. The interiors of the opera house is adorned with the pictures of some of the major artists of the world like William Shakespeare, Sophocles, Euripides, Moliere and others. You can also find the paintings of Ernst Julius Hahnel on the walls of this fabulous opera house.
After the fire, the new opera hose was built according to the Neo-Renaissance style in the year 1878. Like all the other opera houses of Germany, this one too suffered serious damages during the Second World War. After a long period of 40 years, the Semperoper in Germany was again rebuilt in the year 1985 as per its former plan and design. In the year 2002, the opera house suffered damages because of the heavy flooding of the Elbe River. After renovation, it was finally opened for public performances on December in that year.
The Semperoper, Germany is known for the numerous ballet and opera performances that were held over here. The first opera performance that was held over here was Der Freischutz by Weber.
