Tubingen

Germany - Cologne - Dusseldorf - Frankfurt - Munich - Stuttgart - Hamburg - Berlin
The attractions of Stuttgart are scattered outside the city as well, as the neighboring areas too are replete with fascinating destinations to visit. Tübingen is one such destination which can fascinate its guests with a quaint and pleasant charm.

Tübingen is basically a small university town squeezed between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alps. The town is a few miles from Stuttgart and is a popular destination for the tourists in the city. An old castle, a historic university, a winding Neckar River and a distinct old world charm - this is what sums up the attractions of the tiny settlement in Tübingen. Though it lacks any magnificent building or a momentous history, the town has its own little presents to offer to its guests. The locals here would recommend the following places for a tourist:

The University town of Tubingen is situated on the River Neckar in Southern Germany, in the heart of Baden-Wurttemberg, between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alps, and is not far from Stuttgart.

The Church of St George claims to be the key attraction of Tubingen. This 15th century church is a majestic gothic structure marveling its visitors with some fantastic stain glass paintings and windows. The ancient altar stands as a fascinating ground as it still bears the tombs of the former Dukes of Wurttemberg.

The university is of course another precious possession of the university town. Founded centuries back in 1477, the old university now stands as a historic site and a major attraction to the tourists in the town. The Universitatmuseum is a museum which preserves an impressive collection of sculptures, many of which date back to BC.

Lustnau is a picturesque quarter nestled at a corner of the town. Essentially a peasant settlement, this part of the town still wears an old world feel and the rolling hills and a lush landscape render the place a sweet and idyllic charm.

The Hohentübingen Castle is perched on top of a hill gazing down the picturesque Neckar Valley below. The castle is now used for housing a museum and several university departments.

The Cotta House stands witness to the historic works of Goethe and Schiller as the house was the residence of the publisher of the first works by the two of Germany's most prized poets.
