Battery Point is the historic center of Hobart, a district of grand mansions,
quaint mariners' cottages and boatyards. This historic suburb got its name after
the Battery of guns established on the point in 1818.
This place sustains the character of a Cornish fishing village of the last
century and is just the exact destination for a tranquil walk to absorb the
ambience of colonial Hobart. Battery Point was initially the residential area
of the mariners who worked out of Hobart Town. Today though the scenario has
changed a lot, it is still a residential area.
