Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
Battery Point is the historic center of Hobart, a district of grand mansions, quaint mariners' cottages and boatyards. This historic suburb got its name after the Battery of guns established on the point in 1818.

This place sustains the character of a Cornish fishing village of the last century and is just the exact destination for a tranquil walk to absorb the ambience of colonial Hobart. Battery Point was initially the residential area of the mariners who worked out of Hobart Town. Today though the scenario has changed a lot, it is still a residential area.

Getting to Battery Point, Hobart is not very difficult. It is just a short walk from Salamanca Place and the waterfront via Kelly's Steps. This historic suburb houses a number of attractions for the tourists coming here.

The Arthurs Circus is one such attraction. It is a ring of old cottages encircling the old village at the hub of Battery Point. Arthurs Circus houses a number of tearooms and restaurant where you can relax and chill. There are also a number of pubs where you can enjoy a drink and refresh yourself. The antique shops sell unique articles and artifacts. You can either buy something for your self or for your near and dear ones from here.

Battery Point, Hobart is also home to some beautiful museums like Tasmanian Maritime Museum and Colonial Museum. The Colonial Museum is worth a visit because you will get to see items of daily use in the 19th century life like dresses, parasols and china. One can also see the beautiful Van Diemen's Land Folk Museum, a Georgian building in the midst of beautiful grounds. It is open everyday from 10.30am - 5.00pm during the week and noon - 5.00pm on the weekend.

Visit the oldest military establishment in Australia, the Angelsea Barracks. The Angelsea Barracks was established in 1811 and is used by the army till date. This oldest military barrack houses the Military Museum of Australia that offers guided tours of restored buildings and grounds. Established in 1836, St. George's Anglican Church is also a nice place to visit.
