Queens Domain, Hobart is a huge open space and is a popular tourist site of the
city. Also referred to as The Domain, this huge public area houses a playground,
a botanical garden, the Government House and also offers a large number of sports
facilities to the people of the Tasmania.
Queens Domain, Hobart is located on the northeastern part of the city. It is
essentially a hilly bushland located on the side of the Derwent River. The area
was developed according to Macquarie's 1811 plan and was later accredited by
the Governor in the year 1860 as the land belonging to the people of the city.
The northwestern part of this tourist attraction is overflowing with picnic
spots and barbecue areas.
The biggest attraction of this public space is the Governor House. It is a
beautiful building and worth taking a look at. The huge house is located near
the hill and faces the Derwent River. Another major attraction of this place
is the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden. Here one can notice different varieties
of trees and flowering plants. You can pay a visit to this garden and take a
look at the rose plants or the tulip plants. A large number of flower shows
are also held here.
Another major attraction of the Queens Domain, Hobart is the Soldier's Memorial
Avenue. This avenue was created in memory of the soldiers who died in the First
World War. The avenue is lined with around 520 trees, which were planted in
the year 1918 and 1919.
Besides these, one can also find a large number of sports centers and sporting
complexes in this city. Some of the major ones include Hobart Aquatic Center,
Hobart International Tennis Center and the Domain Athletic Center. There is
also an adventure playground here called the Hobart TCA Ground. Large numbers
of people come to play and practice their favorite game here.
Queen's Domain, Hobart with its various attractions and recreation facilities
