Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The other Special Administrative Region in China is Macau. Hong Kong consists of total 260 small islands. To talk about the culture of Hong Kong, the first two things that need special mention are the music and dance in Hong Kong. Music and dance are two integral aspects of the Hong Kong tradition.

Hong Kong is considered as the creator of several music traditions. One of these traditions is the Cantopop, which is popular worldwide. From the name itself, it can be guessed that Cantopop is a sort of pop music. In this form of music the Cantonese dialect is used for singing. Another very famous long tradition of music in Hong Kong is the Cantonese Opera. It is a kind of musical drama, which uses the Cantonese dialect. Again there is the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, which is also a very popular traditional music in Hong Kong and it has made its own niche in the culture of the land. This Orchestra involves various stringed instruments as companions of the music. This symphonic Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra or the HKPO originally came from the Sino-British Orchestra in the year 1895. Besides these, some other popular orchestra groups in Hong Kong are Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Template: SAR Philharmonic Orchestra, Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong etc.

Like music, dance is also considered as a very important section of the tradition of Hong Kong. Various western genres of dance are taught in the city of Hong Kong, which is a global city and has a thriving nightlife. Ballet is a very famous traditional dance form in Hong Kong.
