Music and Dance in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is considered as the creator of several music traditions. One of these traditions is the Cantopop, which is popular worldwide. From the name itself, it can be guessed that Cantopop is a sort of pop music. In this form of music the Cantonese dialect is used for singing. Another very famous long tradition of music in Hong Kong is the Cantonese Opera. It is a kind of musical drama, which uses the Cantonese dialect. This symphonic Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra or the HKPO originally came from the Sino-British Orchestra in the year 1895. Like music, dance is also considered as a very important section of the tradition of Hong Kong. Various western genres of dance are taught in the city of Hong Kong, which is a global city and has a thriving nightlife. Ballet is a very famous traditional dance form in Hong Kong.
