The city of Hong Kong features a modern transport system based on scientific knowledge. The different parts of the city are well-connected by an interesting network of roads and flyovers and highways. The Hong Kong Taxi Service provides excellent services in and around the city.

In order to cover short distances in Hong Kong, taxis are the best options. The fares too are quite reasonable and fair enough. It can be as low as HK$ 15 on Hong Kong Island and lower in the Lantau Island and the New Territories. The taxi drivers accept only Hong Kong dollars. Though many of them can converse in English, it is advisable to get the name or address of your destination penned down in Chinese. This will be more convenient.

The taxis are colored in red, blue and green according to the places where they operate. The red taxis are most frequent in the Hong Kong city. The blue ones serve the Lantau Island. The green taxis function in the rural areas of the New Territories. But all of them connect the Hong Kong International Airport with the city itself. In the airport, the taxi stands are located in the northern side of the Ground Transportation Center.

Hong Kong Taxi Service states that the taxi drivers and the passengers have to follow and maintain certain rules. In certain prohibited areas marked with double yellow lines, picking up or dropping off passengers are not permitted. The driver and the passenger sitting on front seat must put around the seat belt. Driving without the seat belt is considered to be illegal. The taxi driver must always keep his Identity Card along with him. While paying the fare, it is preferred to go by the meter. You must ask for a receipt so that you can get hold of the taxi driver as and when required.
