The Hong Kong Wetland Park in Hong Kong is not exactly your regular amusement park, with rides and other goodies. It is, nevertheless a fascinating and informative place to be in; and so it is a park that attracts not just tourists visiting Hong Kong but also the local people. Jointly conceptualized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the project was initiated in 1998. At that time, the Hong Kong Wetland Park was called the “International Wetland Park and Visitor Center Feasibility Study”. The area in which the Hong Kong Wetland Park is constructed is an “Ecological Migration Area”. The Hong Kong Wetland Park as it stands today grew out as an expansion of this EMA. This 6055 Sq M Hong Kong Wetland Park that is positioned in Tin Shui Wai, of Hong Kong's northwestern Yuen Long District, consists of two chief tourist sections. The first is the ‘Wetland Interactive World', which measures a good 10,000 Sq M. This Wetland Interactive World has areas ranging from 250 Sq M to 1.200 Sq M dedicated to exhibition galleries and theatres. Aside of these two features, this zone in the Hong Kong Wetland Park also has an indoor play zone, which gives it the feel of and amusement park and a souvenir shop. The second major tourist zone is the Wetland Reserve. Spread across 60 hectares of wetland, the zone comprises of habitats for migratory birds that have been replicated. It is in this zone that the Wetland Discovery Center is present. This Wetland Discovery Center is the place from where you can get all kinds of information regarding wetlands and their purposes. Also within this area is the Mangrove Broad walk, Bird Hides, Fish Ponds, Stream Walk and many such natural attractions. There is also another unique drawing card in the Hong Kong Wetland Park; and that is the crocodile named ‘Pui Pui', who was caught off the Shan Pui River. Constructed to preserve and propagate diminishing wetland after the broadening of the Tin Shui Wai New Town project, the Hong Kong Wetland Park serves as both an ecotourism and an attraction. Moreover, its concentration of wetlands and the habitats and wildlife that thrives therewith gives it the status of a theme park. So next time if you are in Hong Kong, visiting the Hong Kong Wetland Park will be your best bet because you will not just be an entertaining day, but also an educative day out with the family.
