Le French May Festival of Arts, Hong Kong Le French May is bringing to Hong Kong an array of top-notch French artistes, and cutting edge French productions covering dance, music, theatre and the visual arts. Le French May is an annual festival that lasts throughout the month of May, which brings all sorts of things from France to the city, a celebration of the best of French culture. From artwork exhibitions, concerts and theatre straight from Paris to lots of excuses for eating French food (and drinking French wine!), it is a Gallic extravaganza, and one of the city's most popular parties. Dig out your beret, and your Berlitz phrasebook, because Hong Kong goes francais. Le French May Our artistic presence is firmly assured each year from the end of April to mid-June through Le French May festival, organized by the Consulate General in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Hong Kong and with several local partners. Over the years, the festival has become the most important of its kind in Asia and a major cultural event in Hong Kong. Le French May is financed through corporate and individual sponsorship, contributions from the leading local cultural institutions, and by generous assistance. The program includes around 15 world-class events covering the principal artistic domains (visual arts, theater arts, urban arts, cinema, music, architecture, etc.). Le French May brings some of the world's biggest French-speaking stars. Artists who have performed in Le French May in the past include Le Cadre Noir de Saumur, le Ballet du Nord, le Ballet de l'Opéra National de Lyon, le Ballet de Marseille-Pietragalla, le Ballet de Monte Carlo, le Junior Ballet du Conservatoire de Paris, Michel Legrand and Liane Foly, Rhaghunat Manet, Françoise Pollet and Elizabeth Vidal, Michel Portal and Aldo Romano, les Quatuors Ludwig and Ysaïe, Marcel Marceau, FFF, Käfig and Matmatah. Other French cultural and artistic events Exhibitions, concerts, conferences, soirées, and other events celebrating French culture and arts are presented throughout the year by the Consulate General and the Alliance Française de Hong Kong, by orchestras, by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and through local festivals, such as the City Festivaland the Hong Kong ArtsFestival.
