It was set up in 1951 by two brothers – Lord Lawrence Kadoorie and Sir Horace Kadoorie. However, it was not until five years later that their plantations in the valley and woodlands became an ‘Association' of sorts; it became the Kadoorie “Agricultural Aid Association” in 1956. The Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Gardens in Hong Kong attained government recognition on the 20 th of January 1995; thus constituting the “Kadoorie Farm and botanical Garden Corporation”. Henceforth, the farm saw a huge move towards conservational activities and creation of a biodiversity. However, the attractions and charms of the Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Gardens in Hong Kong are not restricted to merely its flora and fauna. The park farm has several scenic sights and natural formations to take your breath away. The entire place is a living breathing legacy of the Kadoorie brothers. To make it on foot is the best and also the most difficult option of traversing this 148 hectare large farm. The other mode of transport in the premises is the shuttle bus that takes you from the Farm Produce Sales Counter and tours around the farm, stopping at significant attractions. Aside of the butterfly garden, beautiful orchid garden and other flowers, quaint livestock farm, animal enclosures for deer, wildcats and others, crystal streams abounding in fishes, water-fowl enclosure and other avian enclosures for birds of prey and owls, the Kadoorie farm and Botanical gardens in Hong Kong also has natural and man-made beauties like the Great Fall which is a deviation of the larger Ng Tung Chai waterfalls, the moon arch that leads to another attraction – the Kadoorie Brothers Memorial Pavilion, the statue of Kwun Yam Shan 'Goddess of Mercy' and the beautiful Rainbow Pavilion. There is also a souvenir shop within the premises called the Farm Shop that sells organically grown vegetables and fruits and potted plants and many other such things which you can pick up.
