Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong, is located at just a few minutes distance from Wong Tai Sin. The Buddhist Nunnery, founded in 1930s, provides cultural, religious, educational, and elderly care services in Hong Kong. Recently renovated, the Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong, was reconstructed in 1990. The newly reconstruction resembled the style of Tang dynasty monastic architecture dating back to 618-907 A.D. today it stands as a perfect example of modern architecture clubbed with ancient building techniques. The building was constructed with imported Canadian Yellow Cedar, carved by Chinese skilled craftsmen and artisans. They created pieces, which looked like a jigsaw puzzle where no nails were used. Wooden doweling and brackets system were used to make the building. The main hall resembled the Foguang Monastery in Shanxi Province, while the double-eave Hall of Celestial Kings looked exactly like the 11th-century Phoenix Hall outside Kyoto in Japan. There is a lotus pond with bushes and bonsai in the Chi Lin Nunnery ground. The ground is also flanked by the fine crafted statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, the goddess of mercy Guanyin, other bodhisattvas, God of Medicine and several other gods and goddesses. These statues are made from clay, gold, wood, and stone. Sprawling over an area of 30,000 square meters, the Chi Lin Nunnery is strikingly beautiful. The history of the construction of Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong, dates back to 1934. It took Chinese monastic architecture to a soaring height. After spending more than a multi million dollar for its renovation, the Buddhist Nunnery was reopened in 2000. This truly architectural structure was a marvelous achievement after its construction in the traditional Tang-era style was completed. Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong, stands on an area of eight acre land and houses a lotus pond rock garden of Zen style, 16 Buddhist halls, and a ten thousand Buddhist pagoda. The Monastery remains open from every Thursday to Tuesday from 9 am in the morning to 4:30 pm in the evening. The lotus pond rock garden remains open daily from 7 am in the morning to 7 pm in the evening. The entry to the pond is free of cost and is open for all.
