Star Ferry Hong Kong

Don't miss the Star Ferry trip, if you are in Hong Kong for a vacation. Sailing for about a century, the exotic journey by the Star Ferry across the Victoria Harbor just takes about five minutes. Spend HK$2.20, and you can enjoy a cruise ride to live with an experience of lifetime. This passenger ferry service operator runs across the Victoria harbor, between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

More than 70,000 passengers a day and 26 million a year are carried across four routes, by a fleet of 12 ferries that operate for the Star Ferry, Hong Kong. The main route of this ferry service is between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central. Being very cheap, the Star Ferry, Hong Kong, is equally popular among the tourists as among the local people. The other routes include Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, and Hung Hom and Wan Chai.

The history of the Star Ferry, Hong Kong, goes back to the year 1988, when a report about the ferry appeared in a local newspaper. Dorabjee Nowrojee, a Parsee, is said to be the founder of this ferry service under the name of the Kowloon Ferry Company. Ten years later, the Star Ferry, Hong Kong, as we know it today, came into being.

The ferry comprises of two decks: the upper deck and the bottom deck. The upper deck costs 30 US cents and the lower deck is even cheaper. During the early years of the ferry service, it charged five cents per person. Considering other methods of sea route transportation, Star Ferry, Hong Kong still stands cheaper. There have been two new additions of ferries in 1989, the Golden Star and World Star. Both have a seating arrangement of 750 passengers, which are 200 more than the conventional ones. With air-conditioned upper deck cabins, the journey by these ferries can be more comfortable. The ferry service can be availed from morning till mid-night. There are ferries available in every five minutes.

Here are some important facts about personal booking of the ferry:
From Monday to Friday ferries can be hired from 11 am to 3:30 pm & 8:45 pm to 10:45 pm.
For weekends and every other public holiday ferries can be hired from 9 am to 2 pm & 3:15 pm to 10:45 pm.
The ferry has to be hired for a minimum period of 2 hours with a deposit of 30% in advance.
