Stanley Market, Hong Kong
Address: Stanley Market Road, Stanley, Hong Kong Island
Timings: 9am - 6pm

Stanley Market, a large open-air marketplace jam-packed with vendors, has become well known for its bargains in clothing - particularly silk garments and traditional Chinese dress - as well as toys, ornaments, luggage, souvenirs, and Chinese arts and crafts. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. It is the perfect place to buy something special for friends or relatives. People are drawn here by the cheap goods that would usually fetch a much higher price elsewhere. A little Cantonese helps but sign language is universal. Pick up a bargain or just wander among the fascinating range of wares.

The Market is located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island. There is the usual oriental-looking gifts you can find plus a little more (like ski suits). You should go during the day because most stores in the market seem to be closed in the evening.

In addition to the market, there is a strip by the water with a row of bars and restaurants. Many of which have outdoor dining in the weekends when the street is closed off to motorized vehicles.

There is a small shopping center and a historical building down the road. The rustic building, Murray House, is now home to a few fine restaurants. One seems to have live music every night - a trio singing from table to table
