Sheetla Fair

Agra, the town close to Delhi is home to the seventh wonder of the world - The magnificent Taj Mahal. Agra is a medieval city situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. It is generally accepted that Sultan Sikandar Lodi, the Ruler of Delhi founded it in the year 1506. The north of Agra is bounded by Mathura, on the south by Dhaulpur, on the east by Firozabad, on the south-east by Fatehabad and on the west by Bharatpur. Agra is the third biggest city in Uttar Pradesh.This has been the landmark of many historical tales and fables most of which have originated during the Mughal rule. The Taj Mahal itself has embodied heart warming romanticism as this exquisite artwork in white marble was built by Emporer Shahjahan in the loving memory of his beautiful queen Mumtaz. Apart from the brilliant of Taj Mahal there are other excellent historical structures that also add to the sheer magnitude of Agra. These include The Fatehpur Sikri, Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb, Jama Masjid among others. There has also been an origination of art, culture and crafts and that tradition is still carried on to this day. Apart from all these features the lovely town of Agra also has a penchant for holding up various events and fairs showcasing local tradition and crafts.

Sheetla Fair of Agra is held during the hot and dry months of July and August. Sheetla Fair, Agra attracts crowds and tourists and they all come to feel the local festive culture and mingle with the locals and also to dig in local cuisine.

Festivals like Taj Mahotsav organised by UP Tourism and held as an annual event in and around Shilpgram (next door to the Taj Mahal), this is a fitting tribute to the legendary skills of master craftsmen and other exponents of art, music and cuisine. Taj Mahostav (18-27 Feb), Kalish Fair (Aug-Sep), Bateshwar Fair (Nov), Urs(Fair)(Nov.) Among all these festival there is one that has to be mentioned to complete the list of events. That would have to be the Sheetla Fair. So come here and rejoice!
