The Bangalore Golf Club was founded on June 24 1878 and it is the second oldest Golf club in India. Golf in Bangalore has the credit of hosting the oldest inter-club tournament in India along with Mysore. It started in 1878 and is played alternately in both the states. The tournament was so popular that the golfers traveled on horseback for 300 miles in the past. Golf in Bangalore stretches across 716650 yards and has 18 hole courses. One of the major problems of Golf in Bangalore is that there is a real scarcity of water. Again, the Bangalore crow creates nuisance as it mistakes the Golf ball with its egg and often picks it up. This is the reason why the logo of the Bangalore Golf Club has a crow with a ball in its beak.
Golf in Bangalore is well a very popular sport. The Bangalore Golf Club has fairly dry and sandy fairways which are lush green meadows which are creditably well maintained. The 18 holes are compacted within just 60 acres of land.
A second Golf course has been prepared which is much more recent. It spans over an area of 126 acres of land and is located close to the airport and the Karnataka Golf Association. India is the only country in the world to play Golf after Great Britain. Golf in India started in 1829 with the establishment of The Royal Calcutta Golf Club in 1829. Thereafter, a group of enthusiastic golfers got together in December 1995. They formed The Indian Golf Union which is also the controlling body of the game.
