These structures originally were small temples in themselves and depicted a snapshot of the temple art at the Belur temple. The pillars of the Belur Temple have female figures which represents a female form in different states of shringar or kala. The most attractive of these figurines is the "Darpan Sundari" portraying a woman attending herself in a mirror, astonished to see how beautiful she looks.
