The Nandi Temple, Bangalore was built by Kempe Gowda and is known for its unique and marvelous architecture. This temple features a huge statue of the sacred bull Nandi or Nandikeswara, the loyal carrier of Lord Shiva. This temple is located in Basavanagudi in Bangalore.

The idol of the bull is carved out of a single piece of granite. The entire stone structure measures 15 feet in height and 20 feet in length. Legend says, that the builder of the temple had a dream where he was instructed to build a temple dedicated to Nandi on the hill. The stone structure faces in the north direction of the city. As it is located on a hill, the hill has also come to be known as Nandi Hill. At the foot of the hill, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This temple is known as Dodda Ganapathy. The statue of the sacred bull is flanked by statues of God Surya and Goddess Chandra. The bull has a small iron plate located on its head. This prevents the statue from growing, as per ancient legends and traditions.

One of the major festivals that are held over here is the Kadalekay Parishey or Ground Nut Fair. This festival is held in the month of November.
