Bodh Gaya is the place where Gautama Buddha attained unsurpassed, supreme
Enlightenment. It is a place which should be visited or seen by a person of devotion
and which would cause awareness and apprehension of the nature of impermanence".
Sightseeing in Bodhgaya, therefore, would introduce you to the perfect atmosphere
which moved Shakyamuni thousands of years ago. While roaming around the banks
of the Nairanjana River at this city he realized that austerities could not
lead to realization. His five ascetic companions who were also dwelling with
Him disgusted at his seeming failure, deserted him and left for Sarnath.
Sightseeing in Bodhgaya would take you to such spots noticing which you will
be able to understand the passion for knowledge and wisdom leading towards Moksha
(salvation) which Buddha had undergone. Feel the inner meaning of the above
lines while making a trip to the surrounding areas of this city-
"Here on this seat my body may shrivel up,
My skin, my bones, my flesh may dissolve,
But my body will not move from this seat
Until I have attained Enlightenment,
So difficult to obtain in the course of many kalpas"
