Gnaana Sakthi Temple in Chennai is one of the three sakthis located near Chennai. The three Sakthi Temples are Ichchaa Sakthi or Thiruvudai Amman, Gnaana Sakthi or Vadivudai Amman and Kriyaa Sakthi or Kodiyidai Amman. The form of the Devi in all three temples is identical. Ichchaa Sakthi is the Devi who fulfills the wishes of the devotees. It is considered very auspicious to get darshan of all the three sakthis consecutively on the same day, especially on a full moon day and if it is a Friday, it is all the more auspicious.


Features of Gnaana Sakthi Temple in Chennai

  -   Vadivudai Amman is the Sakthi to be visited second in the morning. The temple is located in Tiruvotriyur.
  -   The legend claims that this is the first temple in the world.
  -   The Lord here is Thyaagaraaja Swaami.
  -   He is known by other names such as Aadhipureeswarar, Vaanmeega Naadhar, Kaarani Vidangar, Padambakka Naadhar, Maanicka Thyaagar and Thiruvotreeswaran.
  -   Gnaana Sakthi is the Devi here who blesses with Gananam.
  -   There is the Amman Sannadhi to the left of Lord Siva's sannadhi.
  -   Special prayers are offered to Devi by offering red saree and jack fruit for neivaedhiyam.
  -   Sundarar, one of the four saivaite saints married Sangiliar at this temple with the Maghizhamboo tree as witness. The tree stands even to this day.
  -   There are sannadhis for Ganesha, Balasubramanian, Infant Siva, Valar Kali and Amman in the outer prakaaram.
  -   There are the sannadhis of the 63 saivaite saints or Adi Shankarar in the inner prakaaram.
  -   There are 27 lingams in a row, one for each of the 27 stars.
