Features of Chennai Tennis Open Event - The SDAT Tennis Stadium has been engaged in hosting the Chennai Tennis Open Event since 1997. The Tennis event is India's biggest tennis event. Started in 1996 as the Gold flake Open, the Chennai Tennis Open Event first started in April but was later changed to January in 2000. The Tennis Court was taken by big names like Boris Becker and Patrick Rafter in 1998. - The Chennai Tennis Open Event was awarded with the prestigious title of being the best new event in the field of Tennis only in its second year by the Association of Tennis Professionals. - The Tennis Open event in Chennai underwent a name change in the year 2002 when the sponsor for the game was changed. The event now came to be recognized as TATA Open. In the present scenario, the event is being co sponsored by the government of Tamil Nadu for a period of five years, starting from 2005.
