The coastline of Chennai is lined with some of the awesome beaches in the country. The Elliot's Beach in Chennai is one of those beaches which are frequented by people for enjoying the beach in a perfect way. It is a beach not meant for just a stroll but to really plunge into the deep blue waters for a good swim and a refreshing bath. The Elliot's Beach, situated in Besant Nagar can be reached from walking down the southern side of the Marina Beach. Features of Elliot's Beach in Chennai - The Elliot's Beach is the favorite haunt of the locals. The Beach lures with its perfect natural setting and entertainment and leisure activities present itself on the sands. It is best visited in the summer months. - The stretch of the Elliot's Beach consists of lots of food stalls, shops and religious shrines. Owing to the cleanliness factor, the beach is preferred by many for a lazy outing or family picnicking. - The Elliot's beach is very fondly called Bessie and the Beach is the center for many other allied attractions in the city of Chennai. The Church of Our Lady of Health Madonna is located at one end of the beach. The Church is open to everyone irrespective of religion or caste. - The southern end of the Elliot's Beach in Chennai is home to the newly constructed Ashtalakshmi Temple. The Temple is a dedication to the eight manifestations of the Goddess of Wealth, Mahalakshmi. The Ganesh Temple and the Velankanni Church is also located in the southern end. - There is also a stone memorial on the Elliot's Beach built as a mark of respect to a Danish sailor, Karl Schmidt. - The northern end of the beach has a secluded spot where the river Adyar meets the sea. This place on the Elliot's Beach is a perfect spot for bird watching. Pond Herons and flamingoes can be easily spotted here.
